Our Community: Meet Rose & Amber
We love touching base with our members and sharing their stories of how yoga has helped make a difference in their lives.
Next up in our Stories from Our Community I took some time to chat with Rose and her playful cat Amber (who also loves getting involved!) to ask why does she keep coming back to the mat…
How did you hear about the studio and our online classes?
Thanks to my best friend Gale (who featured on last week’s blog) I asked her for a recommendation for yoga studios as I had been attending yoga classes at my local gym but I was looking for an alternative when we went into lockdown in March last year so when I heard there were going to be online classes I signed up.
What advice do you have for anyone thinking about starting yoga for the first time?
Try it! Yoga helps with mobility, flexibility, also leaves you feeling calm, centred and relaxed. You don't need to be able to stand on your head, you can practice at your own pace without judgement, the calmness it brings is much needed during the present time we find ourselves in!
Where do you like to practice yoga at home?
I have created an area in my dining room for my practice, there’s a lot of good light and an outlook of the garden, so it is a peaceful area to practice in.
Do you do anything to make the space feel more special?
I have a salt lamp and a little buddha which helps me feel more zen and my lovely pink Liforme yoga mat of course!!
Do you have a four-legged friend that likes to get involved in your yoga practice?
My playful cat Amber often does cat stretches with me on the mat, whether invited or not and falls asleep next to me snoring during meditation - Amber gets a lot from your classes too!!
Do you have favourite classes or poses?
I love Joanne’s Nourish and Nurture classes on Tuesday morning’s and I love the Yin yoga classes on Wednesday evening’s too and especially Diana’s meditation classes. My favourite pose is Pigeon pose as I love the deep stretch to the outer hips it gives me.
What are the benefits have you experience from your yoga practice?
Yoga has been a blessing to me during the several lockdowns we’ve had. My flexibility, strength and stillness have all improved and I’m able to get my feet flat in a down-dog pose which I couldn't before! I have also noticed I can stretch deeper into poses now compared to when I started my practice. Despite not being a beginner when I started Diana’s classes I feel I have learned so much and have benefited immensely from doing yoga so regularly and I have recommended yoga to several of my friends and family.
